Feeding Your Baby

How you feed your baby is one of the most important decisions you will make as a parent.  Your child needs healthy foods to grow and develop.  You can help your child develop a lifetime of healthy eating habits with the right start. Visit our Choosing how to feed your baby page.

Breastmilk is the only food your baby needs for the first six months.  Breastfbreeding gives your baby just the right amount of nutrients they need.  Breastfeeding also helps to protect your baby against infections and disease by providing antibodies.

At around six months of age, babies should be introduced to solid foods with continued breastfeeding for two years or longer.  Solid foods give your baby extra energy, iron and other nutrients they need to grow and develop.  For information about introducing solids, check out the Introducing Solid Foods page.

As a parent/caregiver, you may be thinking about what foods to give your child, but how you offer those foods is also very important.  Both you and your baby have a role in developing healthy eating behaviours.  For more information, check out the Feeding Your Child section on URaParent.
