Community Addictions Prevention and Mental Health Promotion Fund

The Community Addictions Prevention and Mental Health Promotion Fund is an initiative of the Provincial Department of Health and Community Services. It provides each Health Authority with funding to support local community groups, non-profit organizations and municipalities in developing projects, programs or initiatives that support the primary prevention of problematic substance use and/or work towards the goal of mental health promotion.

This fund is intended to support prevention and health promotion activities only and not to provide funding for projects that aim to provide treatment for mental health and/or addictions problems. All organizations, municipalities and non-profit community groups within the Eastern Health region are eligible and encouraged to apply.

Proposals for funding should seek to address substance use, promote mental health, challenge stigma, and provide effective prevention activities through focusing on one or more of the following priorities:

  • Increasing awareness and understanding of problematic substance use
  • Reducing alcohol-related harms
  • Developing supportive communities
  • Mental health promotion
  • Recreational activities
  • Child, parent and family development

Each year, Eastern Health is allocated a total of $50,000 for the fund from the Department of Health and Community Services, with a maximum grant amount of $5,000 per recipient.
